Your seat at the table
The SSW Manager will be responsible for directing and administering the plant safety and environmental programs, policies and procedures to ensure the plant complies with all applicable environmental, health and safety laws and regulations. Responsibilities include developing, implementing and maintaining effective systems, procedures and training to achieve an accident-free and environmental incident-free facility. SSW Manager will integrate continuous improvements in environment and safety systems and must drive employee engagement to achieve desired results. SSW manager must possess skill sets to work closely with city and local community leaders to present the plant as a good corporate citizen for safety and environmental stewardship.
Directs and monitors the SSW activities of the site in the production and processing of high quality snack food products
- Ensures that behaviors, practices and the work environment support a safe workplace by enforcing people and food safety policy and procedures
- Ensure safe work practices complying with local, state and company standards are fully in place and enthusiastically supported
- Lead in the development of Environmental Management System procedures for water, air, and solid and hazardous waste management
- Manage all regulatory reporting requirements and permitting processes, including:
- Air emissions standards and reporting
- Wastewater standards and reporting
- Waste management standards and reporting
- Storm water and Spill prevention programs
- Environmental Training
- Collection and analysis of environmental information to quantify and report environmental impacts and performances
- Interpretation of environmental regulations, policies and company standards
- Effective communication and implementation of environmental regulations and policies and company standards
- Coordinating external resources
- Actively promote a culture of engagement and respect
- Tracking and reporting safety performance and overall loss control performance
- Actively participate in capital planning and equipment installation to insure safety is considered in all plant equipment modifications and facility expansions.
- Leading the completion of internal and regulatory audit processes and ongoing team activities
- Leading the achievement of site safety and sustainability targets by utilizing metrics/data to evaluate and improve SSW work processes
- Providing regular reports to site Leadership Team, identifying trends and proposing actions to address issues in safety, security, risk management and environmental compliance.
- Assisting in the investigation of accidents and ensuring corrective actions to eliminate root causes are completed
- Utilizes standard SSW work processes to ensure repeatable performance
- Observes work practices and equipment to ensure that employees conform to safe operating standards
- Develops personal, technical, and problem-solving capability to troubleshoot and help resolve equipment, process, and work safety and environment issues
- Develops competence in CI, Lean, and Total Productive Maintenance principles, especially pertaining to SSW and the Safety Pillar
- Coaches and motivates team members on a daily basis to own and be accountable for their safety to ensure a strong safety and security culture at the site
- Conducts employee training to improve employees' expertise and knowledge in equipment safe operations, work safety procedures, and teamwork, including all regulatory training (i.e. LO/TO)
- Coordinating safety and security risk management activities in conjunction with cross-functional teams locally, at corporate and with peer plants.
- Supports new employee orientations as required
What you bring to the table
- University Undergraduate Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, or a similar discipline
- Minimum three years of experience in a SSW management, preferably in the food processing industry
- Technical and working knowledge related to various regulatory agencies/issues, including but not limited to OSHA (General Industry and Construction), Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Life Safety Code, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
- Ability to interpret State and Federal Regulations for general and manufacturing industry.
- Understanding of principles related to various safety programs, including but not limited to Emergency Action Plan, Material Handling, Fall Protection, Hazmat, Hazcom, Respiratory Protection, Lockout/Tagout, Powered Industrial Trucks, Electrical and Electrical Wiring, Machine Guarding, Ladders, etc.
- Must have demonstrated track record of success in working in a team environment with focus on results, safety, and ability to solve problems
- Experience working with Continuous Improvement/Lean methods and tools
