Logistics Supervisor

Salary: $70,000.00 to $80,000.00/Year - Full-Time

General Summary

The role of the Logistics Supervisor is to supervise and maintain the daily functions of SMC Logistics Department with emphasis on accuracy, timeliness, and service. Supervising and overseeing the import and export activity, domestic transportation and Public warehouse management, as well as, providing business assistance to the organization. Ensure effective and timely implementation of all Logistics daily operational goals inclusive of shipping functions and warehouse management.

Must have international ocean freight and freight forward experience.

This position requires the supervisor to work in the NY, NY location.

Primary Job Functions
  • Oversee and supervise the activities of the department in order to ensure the needs of our customers are met while complying with established SOP's.
  • Manage and develop efficient and effective flow of work to attain optimum efficiency and productivity of department.
  • Establish and manage relations with warehouses, ocean carriers, customs broker, drayage providers, and sales force.
  • Ensure to process orders and on-time delivery by carrier network.
  • Manage documentation to ensure the file contains necessary documents copies in proper sequence.
  • Head team to develop, articulate and maintain logistic process documentation.
  • Resolve problems and follow up with appropriate personnel
  • Work with vendors and overseas offices to maintain accurate accounting
  • Work with Sales on account implementation, ensuring a smooth transition from Sales to Operations
  • Identify enhancement opportunities and suggest solutions for improvement to top management.

  • Initiate monthly reports having required project timelines and metrics.

Manages Logistics
  • By overseeing, reviewing, analyzing and optimizing the logistics activities including import/export, warehousing and domestic transportation;
  • By reviewing and negotiating vendor contracts for logistics activities to reduce costs;
  • By assisting in conducting feasibility analysis and establishing new warehouses for new business and customers;
  • by reviewing trade journals, customs, federal registers on import/export custom related information and ensure SMC's operations stay in compliance with laws and regulations;
  • by creating procedure manuals and backup systems;
  • by communicating effectively with staff, vendors, and partners in person, and by phone, fax, and e-mail;
  • by insuring SMC meets ISF (Import Security Filing) requirements with U.S. Customs and issuing report card;
  • by insuring Carriers meet SMC on time delivery standards both domestic and directs;
  • by overseeing logistics vendors' billing to ensure accuracy in coding and invoicing.

Supervises Staff
  • will directly and/or indirectly supervise two employees;
  • by providing direction and delegating responsibilities to subordinate staff and evaluating their work, thereby ensuring that the team's overall goals are met;
  • by coordinating work schedules;
  • by giving performance feedback and conducting performance evaluations;
  • and by authorizing and advising staff expenses.

Supervises Business Support Operations
  • by providing optimal logistics support to the Business Divisions and Customer Service;
  • by working closely with Business, to assist in quoting new customers and business;
  • by resolving issues with customers.

Essential Job Requirements
Experience and Education

  • Minimum 4-year experience in International and Domestic Logistics
  • Minimum 2-year experience supervising and developing staff
  • Associates Degree required
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or equivalent experience
